Former Michigan Masters Chair Publishes New Book

Former Michigan Masters Chair Fred Nelis is the subject of a new book on how a swimmer went from winning races to winning a second chance on life with an organ transplant that was unlike most others.

Dubbed the Transplant Brothers by the media, Fred and Gordon Veldman were already casual friends when they found themselves waiting for the news that the organs they needed to survive had become available. Remarkably, both of Fred and Gordon ended up at the same hospital, at the same time, receiving a heart and a pair of lungs from the same donor, linking them for the rest of their lives in ways most of us could never understand.

Available on Amazon.com, this book is a great late summer read of hope and inspiration for not just swimmers, but anyone looking for a fascinating story of hope in the face of life’s biggest challenge.
