The purpose of this annual $1,500 scholarship is to provide financial assistance to eligible Michigan Masters swimmers and family members who are attending college as undergraduate or graduate students.

Who it’s for

Consideration for this scholarship shall be given to Michigan Masters family members

Family of members

attending full- or part-time undergraduate or graduate programs in day or night school

At least a 3.0 GPA

demonstrate potential for outstanding success in their respective field of study

Merit-based

intended to be based on merit, although financial need may be considered

Financial hardship and need may be a criteria for this scholarship.

How it works

Apply by July 31

Send the application packet below to the committee. Any Michigan Masters member may forward a nomination.

Committee review

The Michigan Masters Swimming Endowment Committee reviews applications and selects the recipient.

Paid to the school

The $1,500 award is paid directly to the recipient’s institution for the academic year.

The Michigan Masters Swimming Endowment Committee shall select recipients of this scholarship. Nominations may also be forwarded by a Michigan Masters Member.

All recipients must acknowledge the benefits of the scholarship to the Michigan Masters Swimming Endowment Committee before their scholarship may be renewed.

The scholarship shall be awarded for one academic year and may be renewed for subsequent years providing the recipient continues to meet the conditions of eligibility and funds are available.

The Annual Michigan Masters Scholarship has awarded over $12,000 in grants over the past decade and is completely funded by the generous donations of Michigan Masters swimming members and their families.

Tyler John Austin

2026 Current

Tyler John Austin, a 2021 graduate of Birmingham Groves High School, earned a 3.8 GPA while swimming for the varsity boys team. In 2024 he qualified for the U.S. Paralympic Team Trials in Minneapolis, and he now swims with Detroit Masters, competing at the 2026 Michigan Masters State Meet. Tyler's sights are set on the 2028 Paralympic Trials. This fall he begins the Life & Career Studies program at Calvin University. The committee was impressed by his outstanding application and recommendations.

Morgan Foune graduated from Otsego High School in 2025 where she participated on the varsity girls swim team for 4 years, team captain as a senior, all-conference for 4 years and state meet qualifier, all-state swimming academic team and academic all-American award. Morgan is currently attending Aquinas College studying Business Administration and Sports Management.

John graduated from Brighton High School in 2023 where he participated on the mens swim team. He is currently attending Hope College where he is pursuing a physical Therapy program while swimming on their mens swim team.

Libby was a 2018 graduate of South Lyon East High School, where she was the Captain of the Varsity Girls Swim Team in her senior year. During her time at swimming at South Lyon East High School, Libby maintained a 4.0 grade point average with a schedule consisting of many advanced and placement classes. She is currently attending Oakland University, where she maintains a 4.0 GPA. In addition to swimming as a USMS member for the Milford Athletic Club, Libby is also a member of the Oakland University College Club Swimming team.

The scholarship is funded entirely by member and family donations.
