Patrick Weiss Awarded the Dorothy Donnelly Service Award 2017 at the U.S. Masters Swimming Convention in Dallas, Texas.

Patrick learned to swim in January of 2009 and joined the masters program at Lifetime Fitness in Rochester. Patrick was elected LMSC Treasurer at the 2011 Annual Meeting at the State Championship. Since becoming Treasurer, he has instituted the use of accounting software to improve the efficiency of financial reporting. He is the first Michigan LMSC Treasurer to use the Club Assistant software and has used this software to improve the efficiency of the reporting process to the USMS National Office. Patrick made corporate presentations to Volvo, Ford, BMW & Hyundai to become corporate sponsors of the 2012 USMS Spring Nationals in Greensboro.

Patrick has helped grow Masters Programs at 5 Lifetime Fitness Club locations in the metro Detroit, including hanging and displaying USMS banners in the pool area, having USMS promotional brochures in the public area, and creating bulletin boards with meet schedules, announcements, and Michigan Masters Newsletters in both the pool and public areas.

Recently, Patrick along with our Michigan LMSC Registrar created a data base for swimmers to sign up for their State Meet Team at the Michigan LMSC State Championship Meet. He initiated a process to build a State Meet team registration data base that helps keep track of where the LMSC swimmers are registered and makes sure that this data base is consistent with the USMS local data base. He provides LMSC Financial reports on a regular basis to all LMSC Officers on LMSC’s revenue and expense items and makes sure we are aligned with the LMSC Approved Yearly Budget.

Patrick has a law degree and puts that education to use as a member of the USMS Legislation Committee which he was appointed to in 2016.

U.S. Masters Swimming Recognition and Awards

Swimmer gives back—and gets recognized!

Members of U.S. Masters Swimming don’t confine their participation to the pool. There are many volunteer opportunities for their talent, expertise, and generosity. USMS recognizes the commitment of those who give back with the Dorothy Donnelly Service Award, named to honor one of USMS’s outstanding volunteers. The award recognizes those whose contributions stand out in service to local, regional, and national programs. Up to 15 people are selected each year and nominations come from Local Masters Swimming Committees, clubs, and individuals.

Patrick Weiss is what we would consider a new swimmer, having learned to swim in 2009! His participation in more than 75% of Michigan Masters swim meets reflects how he loves our sport and the camaraderie he shares with his fellow masters swimmers.

Patrick was elected Local Master Swim Committee Treasurer and instituted the use of accounting software to improve the efficiency of financial reporting. He is the first Treasurer in the local organization to use member registration software that improved the efficiency of the reporting process to the USMS National Office. Patrick has also put his extensive international business and law school education to work as a member of the national USMS Legislation Committee which he joined in 2016. He has been elected Chair of the Michigan LMSC and is currently training its newly elected LMSC Treasurer.

Patrick has helped grow Masters Programs at five Lifetime Fitness Club locations in the metro Detroit area. His efforts led to the second largest masters swim group of the entire 127 Lifetime Fitness chains nationwide.

Patrick took his first stroke in 2009, and now leads the lane in volunteerism.
