How long have you been in Michigan Masters? Since I began swimming competitively in 2018.
What is your favorite swim event/race? I’m developing a love for the breaststroke events, mostly the 100 breaststroke.
So far, what was your favorite Masters Swim Meet? I have enjoyed many of them over the years, but the 2023 Spring Nationals in Irvine is a top contender. I swam my fastest 200 freestyle by about 8 seconds. I would also say the Nationals in Indianapolis 2024 because we had such an excellent turnout for Michigan, and everyone supported each other. It made the swim meet that much more fun. I also got to race next to one of my best friends, which kept things interesting.
What is your favorite set? That’s tough. I don’t know if I have a favorite set per se, but because I swim alone 99% of the time, any set I get to swim with others is a great set.
What do you need to improve or constantly work on in the pool? Underwaters! No matter how much I exercise or how frequently I swim, I will always be looking to improve my underwater swimming. I work on breath control, endurance, and speed.
What are your big swim goal(s)?Honestly, to do my best in each race. I do not have a lengthy swimming resume; I grew up swimming in a lake. I just go out and hope to do my best in each race.
Favorite swim Olympian? I am genuinely enjoying watching Gretchen Walsh conquer record after record. She gives every race 100% and inspires female athletes everywhere. I also enjoy watching Kate Douglass, who not only is breaking records in the pool but has written a fantastic article (“Swimming in Data”) regarding how she uses science and mathematics to improve her stroke (mainly breaststroke). Both of these swimmers have made a significant impact in women’s sports both in and out of the pool.
What do you like to do outside the pool? I love traveling, seeing the world, experiencing new foods, exploring other cultures, and spending time with my two boys.
