Team you are a part of: MAC (Milford Athletic Club). I am a Coach, Manager (COO), and Member.
When did you start competitively swimming? 2008. I was a distance runner/triathlete in the early 2000’s. In 2007, while training at the Milford pool for a Tri, I stumbled upon a MAC masters practice, and was immediately hooked. Not knowing much about pool swimming, I had a lot to learn, especially strokes.
How long have you been in Michigan Masters? 2008 I swam my first swim meet with the MAC team. From 2016-2021 I was elected and served as the Michigan Masters Sanction’s Officer. In 2021 I was elected as Michigan Masters Treasurer, where I currently serve.
What is your favorite swim event/race? The 100 IM. I love this event. It goes by so quick, and it is nothing more than an all out 100 sprint. I usually sign up to swim the 100 IM at every meet. I will never forget going to Indy Spring Nationals in 2018. I swam 100 IM and crushed my personal record by 5 seconds. I’ve haven’t come close to that time since.
So far, what was your favorite Masters Swim Meet? 2014 Worlds in Montreal. It was an amazing meet, and overall experience. I found it so interesting talking to other masters swimmers from around the world. We all have so much in common. I felt like a true athlete.
What is your favorite set? I have a love/hate relationship with holding pace sets on an interval, but they do a great job of building swim fitness and endurance.
What is something you need to improve or constantly working on in the pool? Turns… in all 4 strokes!
What are your big swim goal(s)? To continue to improve strokes, and swim masters for many years.
Favorite swim Olympian? Michael Phelps.
What do you like to do outside the pool? Anything outside! I enjoy daily walks with my Golden Retriever Lindsay, and love to go on distance road bike rides. I still run some, when my knees corporate. I have ran the CRIM race in Flint every year, since 2001.
