Entry fees include a swim cap which MUST BE WORN during the race.

REFUNDS: Once a team or individual entry has been received and processed by the Administrative Official there are no refunds in full or in part unless the “over qualification exception” applies (see MS Rules). By registering for this swim meet, you have purchased a “ticket”. As with a ticket to any sports or entertainment event, there are no refunds or credits if you are unable to attend.

The Michigan LMSC believes that athletes, coaches, officials, support staff and volunteers have the right to participate in a safe and inclusive sport environment that is free of abuse, harassment and discrimination.


COMPETITION: The competition will be organized according to these age classifications: (Masters fall into the Open Category)

**Swimmers must have completed a 500 yard or 400 meter as this time is going to be used to seed start waves at the beginning of each race if needed.

Swimmers will compete as individuals for their club.

SANCTION: This meet is a sanctioned by Michigan Swimming, Inc. (MS), as an Open Water meet on behalf of USA Swimming (USA-S), Sanction Number MI2425152 AND sanctioned by United States Masters Swimming (USMS), Sanction number 195-W001. In granting this sanction it is understood and agreed that USA Swimming, Inc. Michigan Swimming, Inc., and USMS Swimming shall be free from any liabilities or claims for damages arising by reason of injuries to anyone during the conduct of the event. MS, and USMS rules, safety, and warm up procedures will govern the meet as is fully set forth in these meet rules. 

Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy Acknowledgement All applicable adults participating in or associated with this meet acknowledge that they are subject to the provisions of the USA Swimming Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policy (“MAAPP”), and that they understand that compliance with the MAAPP policy is a condition of participation in the conduct of this competition. There will be at least two safety marshals at this competition, with at least one of each gender.

RULES: USMS Open Water Rules, and the current Michigan Swimming, Central Zone Open Water, USA Swimming Open Water Rules will govern the Meet as outlined in Part Seven of the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations Handbook. 

CHECK-IN: Swimmers must report to the check-in table appropriate for their age and gender, and report to the Meet Volunteer that they are present and prepared to swim. At that time the swimmers will be briefed regarding instructions for the competition deemed necessary. Check-in will be located at: Beach Pavilion 

SAFETY PROCEDURES: There will be a mandatory Pre-Race Briefing held before competition begins to discuss the course, rules and safety procedures. ALL SWIMMERS MUST ATTEND THE PRE-RACE MEETING or you will not be able to swim.  The Referee will remove any swimmer from competition who does not attend the Briefing or is found to be inattentive during the Briefing. Course will be patrolled by qualified safety personnel.

ATHLETE ATTITUDE: Athlete conduct will be governed by Part Seven of the USA Swimming Rules and Regulations Handbook. Intentional obstruction, interference or intentional contact with another swimmer may be deemed “Unsporting Impedance” and lead to disqualification. Swimmers shall maintain clearance from other swimmers except at the start, turn, and the finish or where the course or race conditions dictate otherwise. Parents and swimmers should be advised there are a significant number of entrants, open water swimming may be expected to involve inadvertent contact with other swimmers. It is important that swimmers keep a cool head while in the water. 

ELIGIBILITY: Swimmer(s) must be registered with USA Swimming OR have a current USMS membership to be accepted into this meet. Age as of June 26, 2025 shall determine the swimmers age. Athlete must show proof of swimming distances equal to or greater than 500yd/400M in a USA swimming sanctioned meet. This swim shall have been achieved during any USA Swimming sanctioned event January 1, one year prior through the Entry Deadline. Use their the 500yrd/400M time as the seed time for their event as pre-meet verification. Swimmers may provide their own Escort Kayak or paddle boarder. Escorts must not aid the swimmer. Escorts must stay clear of all participants. 


START/FINISH: A Beach start and Beach Finish will be used for each individual event. 

TIMING SYSTEM: A NK Interval 2000xc Timing System Timing System will be used to manage times collection.

MANDATORY SAFETY BRIEFING:

  • All swimmers must report to the check in area prior to the mandatory safety briefing. At Check-In swimmers will receive their competitor number, body marking, and cap. 
  • Please make sure that fingernails and toenails are trimmed, and all jewelry and watches are removed prior to the morning registration. Swimmers must be nail-checked before body marking. 
  • There will be no penalty for scratching; entry fees will not be refunded. 
  • Athletes must notify the Clerk of Course if they decide to scratch from their event after completing registration. 
  • No swimmer shall be allowed to use or wear any device that may be an aid to his/her speed.

INDEPENDENT SAFETY MONITOR: Marni Johnson

MEDICAL SUPERVISION: Lifeguards will be on site and on the course. White Lake Police Dept. EMTs will be on site. Medical tent with Registered Nurse will be on site for First Aid. 

OFFICIALS: We welcome all USA Swimming Certified Officials, and you may receive your certification as an Open Water Judge or Open Water Referee at this meet. Please refer to the USA Swimming website for complete certification requirements. The on-line tests for Open Water Judge and Open Water Referee can be found on the USA Swimming website in the Officials Section. 

SCORING: No Scoring 

AWARDS: Medals will be awarded to the top 3 male and top 3 female finishers in each category:10 & under, 11-12, 13-14, Open

GENERAL ADMISSION: There is no admission fee. Michigan DNR vehicle recreation pass is required to enter the Pontiac Lake Recreation Beach Area. 

MEET WARM-UP PROCEDURES: The area within the swim buoy’s will be available for monitored continuous warm-up and warm-down during competition. 

FEEDING STATION: Will Not be provided (not required for 1K-5k races).

POLICY FOR ABANDONMENT: The following priority will occur in this order, if the Safety Officer, Meet Referee, Meet Director, or Independent Safety Monitor becomes aware of any situation requiring abandonment (including inclement weather). 

  1. Radio Communication to Officials and Safety Personnel on Course. 
  2. All Lifeguards issue a 3 loud short blast whistle command, and instruct all swimmers to evacuate the course. 
  3. Announcer instructs all swimmers, safety personnel, and Officials, to exit the course. If the reason for abandonment is inclement weather, announcer will instruct all athletes, coaches, parents, and meet personnel to go to the shelter, team bus, or vehicles, until inclement weather passes. 
  4. Everyone will be instructed to go to vehicles, until safe conditions.

FINAL RESULTS: Final results and Hy-Tek Team Manager Results file will be posted to Michigan Swimming, AND Michigan Masters Websites 

CONCESSIONS: Will not be provided. 

PARKING: Will be located at Pontiac Lake Recreation Beach area. 

RECORDING DEVICES: Use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone, is not permitted in changing areas, rest rooms, or locker rooms. 

GENERAL INFORMATION ERRORS/OMISSIONS: Any errors or omissions in the program will be documented and signed by the Meet Referee and available for review at the Clerk of Course for Coaches review. Information will also be covered at the Coaches’ Meeting. 

SWIMMERS WITH DISABILITIES: All swimmers are encouraged to participate. If any of your swimmers have special needs or requests, please indicate them on the entry form and with the Clerk of Course and/or the Meet Referee during warm ups. 

MARSHALING: This meet is self-Marshaled. 

LOST AND FOUND: Articles may be turned in/picked up at Check-In Pavilion. Articles not picked up by the end of the meet will be retained by the Meet Director or a representative for at least 14 days (any longer period shall be in the sole discretion of the Meet Director). 

FACILITY ITEMS: 

(A) No smoking is allowed within ¼ mile of competition. 

(B) Pursuant to applicable Michigan law, no glass will be allowed in the locker rooms. 

(C) To comply with USA Swimming privacy and security policy, the use of audio or visual recording devices, including a cell phone, is not permitted in changing areas, rest rooms or locker rooms. 

(D) Changing, in whole or in part, into or out of a swimsuit when wearing just one suit in an area other than a permanent or temporary locker room, bathroom, changing room or other space designated for changing purposes is prohibited. 

(E) Operation of a drone, or any other flying apparatus, is prohibited over the venue (pools, athlete/coach areas, spectator areas and open ceiling locker rooms) any time athletes, coaches, officials and/or spectators are present.
