Bring a copy of your 2025 USMS card to the swim meet.  \nEntries: Online and deck entries only. Swimmers may swim a maximum of 4 individual events. Relay shall be deck entry only. Per 103.18.6 Records and Top 10 Times Using a Semiautomatic Primary Timing System—Semiautomatic times are used to determine the official time as follows (or backup times when the semiautomatic primary timing system fails)\, provided the procedures in article 103.17.3B are followed:  \nA. USMS Top 10 times may be established when timed by a minimum two-button semiautomatic primary timing system and the times are reported by three\, two\, or one valid button times.  \nB. USMS Top 10 times may be established when the minimum two-button semiautomatic primary system fails (no valid button times) if the times are reported by a manual backup system with three\, two\, or one valid watch times.  \nC. Swimmers shall maintain clearance from other swimmers except at the start\, turn\, and the finish or where the course or race conditions dictate otherwise. Parents and swimmers should be advised there are a significant number of entrants\, open water swimming may be expected to involve inadvertent contact with other swimmers. It is important that swimmers keep a cool head while in the water.  \nELIGIBILITY: Swimmer(s) must be registered with USA Swimming OR have a current USMS membership to be accepted into this meet. Age as of June 26\, 2025 shall determine the swimmers age. Athlete must show proof of swimming distances equal to or greater than 500yd/400M in a USA swimming sanctioned meet. This swim shall have been achieved during any USA Swimming sanctioned event January 1\, one year prior through the Entry Deadline. Use their the 500yrd/400M time as the seed time for their event as pre-meet verification. Swimmers may provide their own Escort Kayak or paddle boarder. Escorts must not aid the swimmer. Michigan DNR vehicle recreation pass is required to enter the Pontiac Lake Recreation Beach Area.  \nMEET WARM-UP PROCEDURES: The area within the swim buoy’s will be available for monitored continuous warm-up and warm-down during competition.  \nFEEDING STATION: Will Not be provided (not required for 1K-5k races). \nPOLICY FOR ABANDONMENT: The following priority will occur in this order\, if the Safety Officer\, Meet Referee\, Meet Director\, or Independent Safety Monitor becomes aware of any situation requiring abandonment (including inclement weather).  \n\nRadio Communication to Officials and Safety Personnel on Course. \nAll Lifeguards issue a 3 loud short blast whistle command\, and instruct all swimmers to evacuate the course. \nAnnouncer instructs all swimmers\, safety personnel\, and Officials\, to exit the course. A premier 50 meter facility with 8 racing lanes. Continuous warm up/warm down lanes will be available with 11 lanes in the west end and 5 in the flex pool depending on programming. A large multi display screen that can show both event finishes and event placing simultaneously. Locker rooms are available at your own risk during the meet\, however\, not overnight. HAC is not responsible for lost or stolen items. \nPool: The length of the competition course is in compliance and on file with USMS in accordance with articles 105.1.7 and 106.2.1\, but( as a bulkhead course\, is subject to length confirmation. Eligibility of times for USMS Top 10 and records will be contingent on verification of bulkhead placement. The pool will be measured before and after each session. \n\n\nTiming: The primary timing system will be automatic timing with a state of the art Colorado timing system. Times from this competition will be eligible for world record\, USMS record\, and Top 10 consideration. Each session in addition will have 2 timers per lane. \n\n\nMisc: Parking is available and free. Food will be available with a Food Truck in the parking lot during the competition. We also hope to have a Social on Saturday evening. Diving is permitted only in designated sprint lanes. NO EQUIPMENT IS ALLOWED DURING WARM-UP OR COOL DOWN PER USMS REGULATIONS. Dive entries are only allowed during one way sprints in designated sprint lanes.  \nCheck-In:  \n\nGeneral check-in. Every swimmer must report for general check-in upon arrival at the meet to verify entry status. \nDistance event check-in. Distance event check-in. Each swimmer who is entered in a distance event (400y IM\, 500y freestyle\, 1000y freestyle\, 1650y freestyle) must report for a positive distance event check-in. Swimmers who do not verify their intention to compete before the check-in deadline will be scratched from that event. The Meet Director reserves the right to re-seed the distance events after check-in if subsequent scratches will allow consolidation of heats. The deadlines for distance event check-ins are provided in the “Schedule” section of this meet announcement.\n\nSeeding: Seeding will be slow to fast for individual events of 200 yards or less and for relay events\, with men and women only events seeded separately. Seeding will be fast to slow for distance events (400y IM\, 500y free\, 1000y free\, 1650y free)\, with men and women seeded together. “No time” entries will be assigned to the slowest heats for all events. \nHeat Sheets. Will be available on-line at: www.MichiganMasters.com\, as a PDF. Participants can print out their own copy of the heat sheets if so desired. Heat sheets will show heat and lane assignments for all events that are 200 yards or less in distance. Heat sheets will be posted on the walls in the 50 meter pool area. Separate heat sheets for the distance events (400y IM\, 500y free\, 1000y free\, and 1650y free) will be posted at the pool when distance-event check-in for that event is complete. \nScratches: For all events\, the swimmer is responsible for reporting to the assigned heat and lane in a timely manner. Failure to appear by the time of the Referee’s short whistle commands will be considered a scratch; the swimmer will not be allowed to swim in another heat of the same event.  \n  \nTIMING AND SCORING: \n\nTiming system: The primary timing system will be automatic timing. Times from this competition will be eligible for world record\, USMS record and Top Ten consideration.\nSwimmer responsibilities: Hit the timing pad firmly. Do not cut through lanes to reach the ladder until all swimmers have completed the event. During relays\, remain clear of the timing pad area until the event is completed by all swimmers. Before distance free events (500y free\, 1000y free\, and 1650y free)\, make sure there is a counter at the end of your lane.  A lap counter might be provided\, but you are encouraged to supply your own lap counter for your distance events.\nRecord attempt responsibilities: If going for a National or World Record\, you will submit the USMS record form prior to the race. If this happens after a race\, immediately alert the timing system operator and complete the record form. If going for a record\, alert the Starter to request the required three manual back-up timers. \nSplits submitted and Split request forms: The lead off split for all relays will be submitted to USMS for top 10. If additional splits are requested\, you must fill out a split request form prior to your event. Example of using a split request form: can’t swim the 200 free then request the split from your 500 free. Can’t swim the 50 fly then request the 50 fly split from your 200 IM or 100 Fly. These must be submitted prior to your swim and not after. Remember if requesting a backstroke split you must finish to the hand at your split distance. \n\nScoring:  Individual events: 9-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 points. Relay events: 18-14-12-10-8-6-4-2 points. \nResults: Event results will be posted at clearly marked locations announced at the meet and at the awards table. Results will also be available via Meet Mobile. Results will be published on the website (www.michiganmasters.com) following the meet. \nRecords:  A Michigan State Record may only be established by a swimmer registered through the Michigan LMSC. A Meet Championship Record may be established by any swimmer entered in the meet. National or World records require an official form to be completed by the athlete preferably prior to the event but if not\, then immediately after.  \nProtests: Per USMS Rule 102.14.3\, “protests against judgment decisions of starters and stroke\, turn\, and relay takeoff judges can only be considered by the referee\, and the referee’s decision shall be final.” Other protests (e.g.\, concerns about seeding\, awards\, final results\, eligibility\, scoring\, or entries) must be submitted to the meet director or referee by the team representative in writing. The Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a lengthy record of swimming accomplishments\, as well as many years of outstanding volunteer contributions that further the objectives of masters swimming in the State of Michigan. The Chetrick Award recognizes an individual who has exhibited outstanding service and commitment to the spirit of Michigan Masters Swimming on either the state or national level. The Lawrence Award is presented to a swimmer from the Michigan LMSC who has achieved outstanding performances in National competition during the past year\, and across the person’s swimming career. Nixon Aquatic Center is a 25-yard by 50-meter facility. Eight lanes with a depth of 10 feet will be used for the competition in addition to a Colorado Timing System with two\, Olympex digital LED video scoreboards. Warm-up and cool-down lanes will be available adjacent to the competition pool. Daily lockers are available to swimmers with their own lock. The Miami University Recreational Sports Center also has additional facilities available to participants who purchase a daily pass at the Pro Shop at the entrance to the facility. Heat and lane assignments for all events will be posted around 1:00pm on the day of the event. \nSTARTING PROCEDURE: 103.8.5—Start Commands\nA At the commencement of each heat\, the referee shall signal to the swimmers by a short series of whistles to remove all clothing except for swimwear\, followed by a long whistle indicating that they should take their positions with at least one foot at the front of the starting platform\, the edge of the pool or on the wall and remain there. In backstroke and medley relay events\, at the referee’s fi rst long whistle the swimmers shall immediately enter the water and at the second long whistle shall return without undue delay to the starting position (article 101.1.2). \nB When the swimmers and officials are ready\, the referee shall signal with an outstretched arm to the starter that the swimmers are under the starter’s control. \nC On the starter’s command “Take your mark\,” the swimmers shall immediately assume their starting position with at least one foot at the front of the starting platform. Swimmers starting in the water must have at least one hand in contact with the wall or starting platform. When all swimmers are stationary\, the starter shall give the starting signal. \nD For backstroke event starts\, the starter may give the command “Place your feet” after the referee’s whistle. \nRELAYS: All relays are deck entered. Any combination of all male and female relays may compete in relay events. The aggregate age of the four relay team members shall determine the age group (e.g. 76-99\, 100-119\, 120-159\, etc…). \nOfficial relay cards are to be picked up from the Clerk of Course by a team representative who is responsible for the relay. The relay representative should print legibly all information required. Each card should include the swimmer’s name as on the USMS registration card in order of relay swum; first name\, last name\, age and gender. Cards shall be returned to the Computer table by 12:15pm on 11/12/16.  \nAWARDS: An award will be given to the first place scoring team. Individual awards will be given for first through third place by gender and age group for 19+\, 25+…. through 100+. Awards will be given for relays first through third\, by age group and gender. \nORDER OF EVENTS: The meet will be deck seeded according to times submitted\, regardless of age and gender. Heats will run slowest to fastest\, with the exception of the 400 freestyle\, which run fastest to slowest.
